GAC adopts the conclusions of the Council on the reports concerning the MCV

The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) adopted Monday the conclusions of the Council over the MCV reports on Romania and Bulgaria, mentioning that the Mechanism remains an adequate instrument for the two countries and that it is waiting for the general evaluation that will be made by the Commission in the summer of 2012. GAC finds out that the legal framework needed in view of the reform in the two states is functional and encourages the two countries to take the remaining necessary measures, in order to answer the requirements of the Mechanism. The Council mentions that the fight against corruption should remain a top priority in Romania. Better results should be demonstrated with regard to confiscating unjustified wealth and enforcing dissuasive sanctions in cases of incompatibility, reads the document adopted by the Council.
