Draft law on anthem

According to a draft law that PDL MP Maria Stavrositu filed in the Senate, the national anthem will be sung in all primary and gymnasium schools on Mondays and the flag will be permanently placed above the blackboard. The draft law was filed within the Senate on September 8 and will undergo a final vote within the Lower Chamber.

The initiative comes after the incident that took place before the Romania vs. France game. Singer Marcel Pavel modified the national anthem, arguing that he wanted to avoid the verse “And in our hearts we proudly carry a name / Triumphant in battles, the name Trajan!” being politically interpreted. President Traian Basescu subsequently stated the incident was embarrassing, suggesting that the anthem should be sung in schools before the start of classes.
