Several days before the game that Romania has to play against the Czech Republic in order to remain within the World Group, Romanian captain Andrei Pavel pins his hopes on delivering a surprise result even though Victor Hanescu, the best-ranking Romanian player, will not be part of the team.
“The training conditions in Bucharest are very good, the weather is good. We’ve started training on Sunday; all our players are healthy. Everyone is feeling good.
Of course, we feel Victor Hanescu’s absence, but we’re a team and we will give our best on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We hope to deliver a surprise,” Pavel pointed out.
The Czech Republic is 5th in the Davis Cup rankings, while Romania is 17th.
“I think I’ll bear the heaviest burden on day 1 if Tomas Berdych plays. It will be a difficult game; he has a lot of experience. I hope I’ll live up to it. I won’t enter the court thinking I will lose this game,” Victor Crivoi stated.
The Davis Cup game that pits Romania against the Czech Republic will take place within Bucharest’s National Tennis Centre on September 16-18.
