The global leader for almost 80 years on the market of windproof lighters, Zippo re-launched its business yesterday in Romania through an event in which Keith Kirkham, Commercial Attache announced the total support of the US Embassy in Romania for the company. On this occasion, the American investor announced that Tonka Distribution is the official dealer of its products on the Romanian market through its two stores, in Pipera and Dorobanti.
The iconic brand of America is doing well, so “in 2010 the company registered total sales of approximately USD 200 M, at the level of all its divisions, and the profit exceed forecasts by more than 10 pc,” said David Warfel, Global Marketing Manager, Zippo. For now, Zippo brings in Romania only lighters – about 75-80 pc of the entire global portfolio, so that in the next 12 months the investor to enter the market with other objects of Zippo brand, said Warfel for Nine O’clock. The cheapest price of a Zippo lighter is RON 43 and the most expensive – RON 130, prices without VAT. The company also manufactures other items, like watches, bags and writing utensils. Zippo sells its products in more than 160 countries from all over the world and has been present in Romania for almost 20 years through gray market. According to Warfel, American sales account for 40 pc of the turnover and the remaining 60 pc are achieved abroad, especially in China, which is the leading market for Zippo products outside the USA. To be more precise, China accounts for some 10 pc of the company’s turnover, with the best sold products being windproof pocket lighters. For this year, Zippo estimates its Chinese sales to grow by more than 5 pc.
