The population and dwellings census set for October 20-31 will cost RON 193 M (over EUR 47 M), and its final data will be unveiled in 2014, the president of the National Statistics Institute (INS), Vergil Voineagu said, quoted by Mediafax.
In a press conference held at the Government HQ, the head of the INS reminded that, like the other EU member states, Romania too holds a census of the population and dwellings every 10 years. For this edition of the census, authorities will allot RON 193 M during 2011-2013. Over 120,000 people will participate in the data collection process, whose first results will be made public in Q1 2012.
According to Voineagu, the law compels citizens to answer the census operator, refusal to do so being sanctioned with fines between RON 2,000 and 5,000.
