Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi yesterday inaugurated the Consular Crisis Centre to co-ordinate emergency situations faced by Romanian nationals abroad. “We haven’t allocated more human resources, the focus is on redirecting the staff included in the current organizational chart. We have got equipment, mostly IT, from Romania’s Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010, we brought it into the country and we entered a partnership with some Romanian companies willing to help the MAE in this consular crisis management effort. As far as I know, the Ursus beer factory too will help us with some visual identity materials,” the minister said. The Centre was set up as a specialized structure made up of volunteer diplomats and MAE personnel, and run by a Coordination Unit handling crisis situations abroad. Internally, the Centre is made up of the Coordination Unit, Secretariat Unit and the Alert Unit. Externally, the Consular Crisis Centre will operate by means of a Rapid Reaction Unit equipped with temporary passports, walkie-talkies and medical kits. (Mediafax)
