BNR maintains monetary policy rate at 6.25 pc

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) decided yesterday to maintain the monetary policy rate at 6.25 pc and the minimum reserve requirements, Mediafax reports. “BNR’s Board of Administration reiterated that the central bank would continue to keep close watch of the internal and international economic trends, so as to ensure medium-term stable prices and financial stability, by a corresponding adjustment of the instruments at its disposal,” a release by the central bank reads. The central bank last modified its monetary policy rate in May 2010, when it reduced the said rate by 0.25 pc, to the all-time low of 6.25 pc. On the other hand, the national currency recovered a portion of its Wednesday evening depreciation, but the exchange rate rose slightly above levels reported by the half of the preceding session, and the BNR reference rate reached the past 15 months’ high, at RON 4.3218/EUR.
