Ex-PNTCD leader Ion Diaconescu in hospital

The former president of the Christian-Democratic National Peasant’s Party (PNTCD – 1996-2000), Ion Diaconescu, will be released from hospital today after being committed to the Fundeni Cardiology Institute on Friday, following cardiac rhythm disturbances. The Peasant’s Party honourary president is 94 and checked into Fundeni Hospital once before in 2007, on account of heart problems. Ion Diaconescu is the man who, after the Revolution, founded the new National Peasant’s Party, alongside Corneliu Coposu. Diaconescu spent 17 years in prison during the communist regime.
