Calarasi commune mayor detained for taking bribes

The mayor of Frasinet commune, Calarasi County, Vasile Manole, was detained for 24 hours by anticorruption prosecutors on charges of taking bribes, Realitatea.net reported. According to prosecutors, between September 2010 and September 2011, Manole asked the manager of a commercial company working in civil and industrial constructions ten per cent of the sum allocated by his mayor office for a water supply contract worth over RON 2.5 M. Manole told the company manager that the mayor’s office will pay for the works only after receiving the ten per cent commission. The mayor reportedly took RON 118,100 from the company manager, in several instalments.

Yesterday, Manole was to be taken before the Ialomita Tribunal with a proposal to be remanded for 29 days.
