Romania, steepest drop in retail across EU in August

Romania reported in August the steepest drop of the retail sector across the EU, compared to July, and, respectively, the second sharpest reduction compared to the same month of the preceding year, according to figures released on Wednesday by Eurostat, quoted by Mediafax. Retail trade turnover in Romania shrank by 3.1 pc in August compared to July and, respectively, by 6.3 pc compared to the same month of 2010. At EU level, the retail sector reported a reduction by 0.2 pc compared to the preceding month and, respectively, by 0.8 pc compared to August 2010. In the euro zone, retail trade ebbed by 0.3 pc compared to July and, respectively, by 1 pc compared to August 2010.
