Thousands of runners braved the poor weather to take part in the 4th edition of the Raiffeisen Bucharest International Marathon yesterday, Agerpres informs. Tekla Metafeira Getu (from Kenya) won the men’s race(2:17.21) followed by his conationals Willy Korik Kimutai and Henry Kipkurui Kipsang. The women’s race was won by Marina Kovaleva (2:32.20) followed by Hirut Beyene and Addis Asrat Kebede (Ethiopia)
The race started in the Alba Iulia Square but the original route was slightly changed because of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly taking place in Bucharest. Raiffeisen Bucharest International Marathon was organized in collaboration with the Bucharest City Hall, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Romanian Olympic Committee and the Romanian Athletics Federation. Apart from the marathon per se, the event also included a semi-marathon, a relay race, a fun event and an event for persons in wheelchairs. The kids’ race took place on Saturday.
The competition is internationally accredited, being included on the official list of world marathons and affiliated to the Association of International Marathons (AIMS).
