Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu is one of the honorary guests of the Bolshoi Theatre’s opening gala, on October 28, at the special invitation of the Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, according to a press release remitted by the artist’s management, quoted by Mediafax. The gala will be broadcasted exclusively in Bucharest at the National Opera, as well as in Sibiu and Timisoara, starting 5pm. The director of the gala is Dmitry Ceniakov, while Vassili Sinaiski will be the musical director. The performance will feature the Bolsoi Theatre’s soloists, ballet company and orchestra. Other special guests include the German chancellor Angela Merkel, the tenor Placido Domingo, Natalie Dessay and Dmitry Hvorostovski.
The Bucharest National Opera (ONB) initiated in late September a series of live broadcasts of acclaimed productions of the world’s major lyrical theatres. Tickets cost RON 45 and are available at the box-office or online, on the institution’s official website, www.operanb.ro.
