Liviu Luca appointed to EESC

The European Union Council appointed Liviu Luca, from the CNSLR-Fratia trade union, proposed by the Romanian Government, to the European Economic and Social Council (EESC), until September 20, 2015, the EU’s official Journal announced. Luca, considered a member of Sorin Ovidiu Vintu’s entourage, is the object of a criminal investigation into a case concerning the trade union’s patrimony, and was also involved in scandals such as the one surrounding PSV Company (ex-Petrom Service) or SC Bucuresti Turism SA’s privatisation. In response, the spokesperson for the Government, Ioana Muntean, stated for Hotnews that the Executive had “merely forwarded the Economic and Social Council (CES)’s proposal, which was accepted by consensus by the European Union”. In turn, the CES chairman Florian Costache stated, quoted by the same source, that, at the time of Luca’s nomination by CNSLR, the latter was not the object of any investigation.
