The main events will take place on October 25, the King’s birthday, and will start with the solemn session of the two Chambers of Parliament.
The ‘Jubilee 90’ programme, dedicated to King Michael’s 90th birthday, includes cultural events, conferment of decorations ceremonies and official dinners scheduled to last until November 10., Sandra Gatejan, Director of the Royal Family’s Protocol, and Alexandru Oprean, Chancellor of the Royal Family said on Monday. Asked how King Mihai received the Parliament’s decision, Oprean answered: “With great joy and as a natural thing.” On the same day, a gala show that will be attended by King Mihai and the Royal Family, but also by members of Royal Families from Europe and Asia, will take place within the National Opera House’s Great Hall. Nelly Miricioiu, Teodor Ilincai, Vlad Mirita and the National Opera Orchestra will take part in the show.
According to Mediafax, the Gala can be watched by Bucharesters for free, in the park outside the Opera, where the City Hall will install several large screens. King Mihai will come out to greet the audience. The official dinner is scheduled the same evening, at the CEC Palace where the King’s close friends from abroad as well as representatives of Royal Families from Europe and Asia will be invited.
The two officials did not disclose the name of the guests, out of security concerns. They did point out that the list will be made public on October 24, with several hundred persons set to attend the dinner.
The day before the King’s birthday, an official luncheon will be organized within the National Bank of Romania’s Marble Hall, the guests set to include politicians, artists and scientists. The ‘Stella Maris – Inima Regine’ exhibition will take place on the same day at the Romanian Peasant’s National Museum, and Princess Margareta’s annual gala will be organized at the Romanian Athenaeum. A private brunch for the members of the royal families attending the King’s Jubilee will be organized on October 26 at the Elisabeta Palace. The ‘Royal Fashion’ show organized by Passe Partout Dan Puric is scheduled on the evening of October 26.
On October 27, King Mihai will confer decorations to a series of Romanian and foreign personalities, and on November 8 the owners of the King Michael Medal for Loyalty will be invited to attend a reception at the Elisabeta Palace.
Apart from three events that have already taken place – the launch of a CD containing King Mihai’s and Queen Mary’s favorite songs, the launch of the ‘King Mihai 90’ jubilee medal and the regatta organized by the Royal Yacht Club – the Royal Family has scheduled an audience the King will offer to the delegation of former political prisoners, to Greek-Catholic Church representatives, and to the delegation of Bucharest’s ‘King Mihai’s school.
An exhibition will take place at the Peles Castle on October 21 but the King will not be present there.
