Budget of EUR 45 M for census

Vergil Voineagu, the President of the National Statistics Institute (INS), stated yesterday that the census that will take place on October 20-31 will be the most complex ever conducted after 1989 and the first to be conducted after Romania joined the European Union. The budget for the census surpasses EUR 45 M for the 2011-2014 period. The respondents’ possibility of declaring double citizenship, ethnicity or religion, but also questions for persons with disabilities, are among the novelties included. The preliminary data will be made public at the end of January 2012 at the latest. “If we were to launch a hypothesis about this census, then that would be a drop in population. (…) The census will reveal how many persons are able to work, how many unemployed persons there are, how many pensioners, the population’s education level,” INS President Vergil Voineagu stated.
