Patriciu will not recant allegations on 2004 incident involving Basescu

The businessman Dinu Patriciu stated on Wednesday evening on Realitatea TV that he would not withdraw his statements concerning president Basescu’s alleged involvement in the 2004 incident (e.n. the video in which the president seemed to be striking a child during a 2004 electoral rally) as he had witnessed the scene first-hand. Furthermore, Patriciu claims he recounted the incident he had witnessed in Ploiesti at a local television that very year (e.n. 2004). When asked whether he regretted his decision to publicize this incident in 2009, the Liberal answered in the affirmative. “I think the timing was poor. The results of my public intervention were in no way what I had hoped them to be,” Patriciu stated. President Basescu won the suit he had filed against Dinu Patriciu at the District 1 Court, requesting RON 1-damages for “lying and the use of doctored footage”, after the release of a video which seemed to show the president in the act of striking a child during a 2004 electoral rally.
