330,000 Romanians celebrate their name day

Over 330,000 Romanians celebrate their name day on October 26, the day celebrating Saint Martyr Dimitrie, the Myrrh-streamer. Of the 331,485 people bearing the saint’s name, 43,919 are female and 287,566 males. According to Interior Ministry statistics, the majority of women celebrating their name day on Saint Dimitrie’s Day bear the name Dumitra (31,838), Dumitrita (6,333) or Mita (4038). Among the males, 270,744 are named Dumitru, 8,287, Mitica, and 5,384, Dimitrie.
