Government will give subsidies to railway passenger and infrastructure operators CFR Calatori and CFR Infrastructura to help them pay the debts owed to electricity suppliers, Competition Council President Bogdan Chiritoiu yesterday told a European energy development seminar, Mediafax reports. “We have the European Commission’s go-ahead to subsidise CFR Calatori and CFR Infrastructura,” Chiritoiu said. Romanian railway companies owe debts worth nearly RON 2 bln to energy suppliers. Early last August, Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said CFR buys electricity at too higher a price. The transport minister said at the time that the debts would be paid by the end of the year, and in 2012, CFR will enter new energy procurement contracts.
