President Traian Basescu received yesterday a farewell visit from the Chinese ambassador Liu Zengwen, at the end of his term in Romania. On this occasion, the president awarded Liu Zengwen the National Order “Star of Romania” in the rank of Commander. “I thank you very much for your activity during your mandate in Bucharest. It is enough to look at the figures, even at this time of crisis, trade figures between China and Romania have risen and I am convinced they will continue to rise. We are waiting to initiate the projects our delegation has discussed in Beijing and we are persuaded that ties between China and Romania will remain strong,” Traian Basescu told the Chinese ambassador. The president further told Liu Zengwen that the newly-appointed Romanian ambassador to Beijing Doru Costea was intent on learning a bit of Mandarin before heading to China, which he hoped would happen by the end of the year. “The distinction I was awarded serves as full confirmation of the development of bilateral ties in the 62 years that elapsed since the initiation of diplomatic ties between China and Romania,” the Chinese ambassador stated in turn.
The head of state also received yesterday at Cotroceni the ambassadors of The Netherlands and Sudan, Tanya van Gool and, respectively, Yasir Abdalla Abdelsalam Ahmed, as well as the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura.
