Soldier injured in Afghanistan

Sergeant Marian Nicula, from the 495th Battalion deployed in Afghanistan’s Zabul province, was injured on Tuesday evening in a firefight with a group of insurgents, the Ministry of Defence informs. “The NCO suffered a traumatism to his left eye and his life is not at risk. Sergeant Nicula was taken to the military hospital in Kandahar where he was given medical care and will be evacuated to the military hospital in Landstuhl (Germany) for ophthalmologic treatment,” the MoD’s communiqué reads. The Ministry also points out that Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea and the Army’s leadership is carefully following the evolution of Sergeant Nicula’s health.
