Romania becomes the third country in the world, after Taiwan and Turkey, where Internet banking users have access to MasterCard display debit cards, launched in a premiere by Credit Europe Bank, Etem Birinci, deputy-president of the bank’s Retail Division, stated, in a press conference. “Credit Europe Bank issued 10,000 display debit cards for Romanian clients who wish to use the Internet banking option for RON deposits. In practice, by using this display card, the token which has been used so far is no longer needed, as the new technology is safer and easier to use. Display Card works like any other card, except it has a tiny display and a button activated by touch. The card-holder can access information, be it figures or text, in that display, for example, a dynamic password, the balance of the account or the maximum amount he can spend,” Etem Birici stated. As far as technology is concerned, MasterCard chose as its partner for this programme the Swiss company NagraID Security, specialized in security solutions.
