Two police and 7 “Drabi” ring loan sharks arrested

Commissary Constantin Greu, head of the Urziceni Criminal Investigations Bureau and a former chief of the Urziceni Police, has been arrested, along with seven members of the “Drabi” loan sharking ring. Investigators say that Greu put the criminal deeds committed by the perpetrators in the category of felonies requiring previous claims by victims, who were afraid to go to the Police fearing the ring’s retribution, or recommended against criminal proceedings being opened into such cases. Commissary Greu stepped down as Urziceni Police Chief in 2009, one month after two Roma clans fought one another right in front of the Police building. Also yesterday, the Bucharest Court of Appeal remanded in custody eight members of the “Drabi” ring, known for lending money and then demanding paybacks up to ten times the money lent.
