Piedone to run for new term as mayor for UNPR

Yesterday, during the Bucharest municipal conference of the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR), District 4 Mayor Cristian Popescu Piedone announced his intention to run for a new term as mayor in 2012, supported by UNPR, explaining that he had chosen not to betray District 4 voters. Conservative Party (PC) President Daniel Constatin on the other hand says Piedone will be definitely reprimanded in election over his association with Traian Basescu and Gabriel Oprea. In early October, Piedone resigned from all his positions in PC, yet asked for an extraordinary congress of the party to be called in session, expressing his wish to run for president of PC. A few days later, he was reconsidering his decision to defect from the Conservative Party.
