Nadia Comaneci turns 50

Former great athlete Nadia Comaneci, the first gymnast to ever score 10 points, the hero of the Montreal Olympics, is turning 50 on Saturday. On this occasion, well-known journalist Emanuel Fantaneanu wrote a touching article published on the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) website, Agerpres informs.

Settling down in the US in 1989, Nadia Comaneci is today a sports and artistic gymnastics promoter, alongside her husband Bart Conner, a former Olympic Champion and President of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in which Nadia was inducted. Nadia and her husband own the ‘Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy’ and also edit an international gymnastics magazine. In 2000 the gymnast was awarded the ‘Romanian Star’ National Order. In 2003 she was appointed Romania’s honorary general consul in the US.
