Tires, divided into energy classes

As on November 1, 2012 the tires that will be put on sale will have to be labeled with their energy class – from A to G – same as electric household appliances. The provision is included in Regulation No. 1222/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council, dating from 25 November 2009, on labeling tires based on fuel consumption efficiency and other essential parameters.

Manufacturers will be compelled to label their tires, but this does not mean that those who purchased tires this year will have to replace them in 2012. Car owners may save more than 100 euros a year from their fuel expenses, will have less noisy and polluting cars and will need a shorter braking distance on wet roads, ‘Gandul’ reports.
