The Romanian market of durable goods has scored a two-digit growth for the third quarter in a row. In the first three quarters of 2011, the market soared by 11.5 pc against the same interval of last year, according to the GfK TEMAX survey for July – September 2011. The third quarter was successful especially for the IT market, which reported a significant increase year-on-year. The growth rate of 26.6 pc suggests that the trend of delaying the demand for IT products has come to an end. The positive trend is visible especially in the segment of portable computers, where the erosion of prices stimulated consumers in their decision to buy. Other sectors that reported positive evolutions are small household electric appliances, photo and telecom. The sector of small household electric appliances advanced by 15.8 pc in Q3 this year against the similar period of 2010. On the other hand, electronics and white goods only registered minor increase rates of 2.7 pc and 1.1 pc, respectively. In the third quarter of 2011, the photo market soared by 15.6 pc, up to a total value of EUR 13 M. Compared to the same quarter of last year, the telecom market went up 13.9 pc in Q3 2011. Once again, its main driver was the segment of smartphones. Besides all these sectors, which continued to score solid growth rates, office equipment reported its first increase after 2008, by 13.6 pc year-on-year, which took it to EUR 7 M in Q3, against a still troubled economic background.
