DNA calls for divesting ECHR judge of immunity

The National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) announced yesterday it had petitioned for the lifting of immunity in the case of European Court of Human Rights judge Corneliu Barsan. The petition was presented to the Justice Minister, who forwarded it to the Foreign Ministry and, hence, to ECHR. According to the DNA release, “the privileges and immunity granted by the Council of Europe can act as an obstacle hindering procedures related to the investigation into suspicions of corruption concerning the wife of an ECHR judge, an investigation which is not related, however, to the European court judge’s prerogatives”.
