A car smashed through a bulwark before falling into Bucharest’s Floreasca Lake, Baneasa Bridge area, yesterday afternoon. Rescue teams, who used a crane to pull the car out of the water, found a dead body in the right front seat of the car. Eyewitnesses said the car contained three or four persons. Daniel Pistea, head of the Road Traffic Department, told Realitatea TV that rescue crews would check whether there were more victims indeed. Early findings by traffic police point to over-speeding as the cause of the accident. Daniel Vasile, spokesman for the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, told Mediafax that the vehicle suffered mechanical deformations as a result of the accident. They also said the car trunk got opened when it came into contact with the water, and the driver allegedly tried to get out of the car, yet, his legs got caught in the contorted wreckage and he was unable to save his life. The incident was reported by an eyewitness who called the emergency number 112 at 13.29 hours.
