Lahovary descendent appointed Romania’s honorary consul in Gotland

The Romanian Ambassador to Sweden Raduta Matache officially inaugurated yesterday Romania’s Honorary Consulate in Visby, in charge of the Gotland consular circumscription. Andre Lahovary, a Romanian-born Swedish citizen, descendent of the Lahovary family, was appointed at the helm of this consulate, the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) informs. “Andre Lahovary made a name for himself in the cultural and media sphere by actions to promote Romania in Gotland, among others in his quality as programme editor at Radio Gotland. He comes from a distinguished family which included foreign ministers, diplomats and generals. His father, Paul Lahovary, was a diplomat, poet and translator,” MAE further stated. According to the same source, Andre Lahovary’s work will consist in ensuring the protection of Romanian and Romanian-born citizens’ rights and interests and he will continue to cooperate with the Romanian Embassy in Stockholm.
