Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi was on an official visit to Libya yesterday, upon the invitation of Libyan interim authorities, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, quoted by Mediafax. The minister was scheduled to meet with acting Prime Minister Abdurrahim Al-Keib, but also with his Libyan counterpart Ashour Bin Khayal and with Economy Minister Taher Sharkes, the release said.
Baconschi met with representatives of the Romanian business environment who want to resume activity on the Libyan market or implement new projects in the region, the ministry informs.
During the visit, the foreign minister was expected to reiterate Romanian support for the successful of political transformations in Libya, based on its own experience in moving from a dictatorship to a free society. The minister was also likely to voice Romania’s willingness to take part in post-conflict social-economic reconstruction and infrastructure repair. Baconschi was also going to present a Romanian offer for humanitarian support for children and people injured in the war, the release added.
