Romanian Internal Affairs Minister Traian Igas met his Moldovan counterpart Alexei Roibu on Tuesday in Iasi, the two signing a protocol on consolidating cooperation between the Romanian Border Police and the Moldovan Border Guard Service. Minister Igas stated that Romanian air space was violated at least ten times by cigarette traffickers from Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, pointing out that the three states’ internal affairs ministers will meet early next year. In his turn, the Moldovan Minister stated that his country has some problems in what concerns the equipment used by the Border Guard Service, the latter lacking vehicles equipped with thermal vision systems for example. “We count on cooperating with the Romanian Border Police. It’s not that we let traffickers go through so that the Romanian Police can then catch them. We’re talking about a continuous and efficient exchange of information between the two sides,” Alexei Roibu stated.
