USL calls on Traian Basescu to make public his mandate to the European Council

“In the name of the USL, we urge President Traian Basescu to put forth – not to us, the Opposition, but to Government, Parliament and the public too – the mandate with which he will attend the Council of the European Union meeting Dec 8-9. This Council meeting is of essence to Europe, given the changes in the EU treaties, the future of the countries in the eurozone and outside it,” PSD President Victor Ponta said yesterday, adding that Traian Basescu is the only head of state who will not be accompanied by the prime minister at the meeting, and without a public mandate to vote in Romania’s name. “These are serious issues beyond Traian Basescu’s grasp, unfortunately,” Ponta said.
