Democrat-Liberal Mircea Cinteza resigns from Senate

PDL Senator Mircea Cinteza announced yesterday during the plenum meeting that he will resign on December 9, following his election within the leadership of the Bucharest College of Physicians (CMB). “I was elected within CMB’s Council and General Assembly several days ago and, according to the legislation that came into force after I was elected MP, this position is considered incompatible with that of MP,” Cinteza stated for Mediafax. He pointed out that he regrets the fact that he is leaving Parliament, but stated that his work will be more useful within CMB. Moreover, the Democrat-Liberal did not rule out the possibility of running for President of CMB, an institution he previously led for 10 years, from 1997 to 2007. “I’ll see whether I’ll do it, because there are several steps to take. Elections for the National Council are next, elections in which I’ll probably run, and then, depending on the talks with my colleagues and on the chances I have, I consider working as intensely as possible within the CMB,” the former Senator stated. Mircea Cinteza (51) is a physician at the Bucharest Emergency Hospital where he is head of a ward. He is also teaching at the ‘Carol Davila’ University of Medicine and Pharmacy. From December 29, 2004 to August 22, 2005, Mircea Cinteza was Health Minister within the Tariceanu Government.
