The Constitution should not be seen as something unchangeable, President Traian Basescu stated in a message occasioned by the Romanian Constitution Day. “The anniversary of 20 years since the approval of Romania’s new Constitution through the referendum organized on December 8, 1991, represents a festive moment but also an opportunity for review,” the President said. He said that a Constitution reflects the state of a nation and the affirmation of the rule of law’s fundamental values. “It shouldn’t be seen as something unchangeable. This is why I believe adapting its fundamental norms to political, economic and social realities has to be rethought periodically,” Basescu added.
