Leonida Lari, keen supporter of Romanian-Moldovan union, dies

Moldovan writer and publicist Leonida Lari died yesterday morning, after a long battled with cancer, according to daily ‘Adevarul.’  She was 62. Lari, a former parliamentarian in both Moldova and Romania (on behalf of the National Christian Democratic Party – PNTCD), was a fervent supporter of Romania’s union with the Republic of Moldova. After leaving parliament, she was a member of the Greater Romania Party for ten years and then returned to PNTCD.

Lari has written 24 volumes of poetry and prose and is also known for her translations of universal literature. She was one of the leaders of the Moldovan Movement of national emancipation in 1988-1991.
