President on two-day visit to Turkey

Signing of joint declaration to consolidate bilateral ties, likely on the agenda.

President Traian Basescu will be on a two-day visit to Turkey today and tomorrow, on the invitation of his counterpart Abdullah Gul, according to the presidential administration. During the visit, Basescu will have talks with Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the president of the Turkish National Assembly, Cemil Cicek. He will also have a meeting with representatives of the Romanian community in Turkey, the presidential administration said.

On the second day of the visit, President Basescu will attend a Romanian-Turkish business forum in Istanbul.

The announcement followed a similar one made by the Turkish presidential administration, which also said that Basescu and Gul might sign a joint declaration for the further consolidation of bilateral ties at a “strategic partnership” level.
