Chairman of Romanian Filmmakers Union dies

Mihnea Gheorghiu, member of the Romanian Academy, the head of the Arts, Architecture and Audiovisual Section, chairman of the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN), passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, a release by the Romanian Academy informs. Mihnea Gheorghiu also had a rich teaching activity, as English lecturer and reader at the Academy of Economic Studies, professor and head of the English Department within the University of Bucharest, and professor and head of the Theatre and Film Studies Department within the Bucharest Institute of Theatrical and Cinematic Art. He also devoted himself to ample translations from English of Shakespeare’s and Walt Whitman’s complete works, as well as of writings by Robert Burns, Fenimore Cooper, Charles Dickens, Tennessee Williams, etc.
