Forged money for pensions, found in Bucharest

A criminal ring specialised in forging banknotes, which used postal employees to pay pensions with the fake bills, was dismantled by prosecutors of the Department for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), which detained the members of the gang yesterday, during a setup.

The prosecutors of DIICOT’s Central Structure made yesterday 16 home searches in Bucharest and in the counties of Ilfov and Giurgiu, aimed at arresting 16 people aged from 17 to 41, suspect of forging and using fake money.

According to DIICOT sources, in 2010 the gang led by Nicusor Bibire and Sebastian Barbu put in circulation approximately RON 200,000 in forged banknotes, in Bucharest and 19 counties, including Giurgiu, Arges and Olt, which brought them a substantial benefit.
