Businessman Dinu Patriciu loses case against Basescu

Businessman Dinu Patriciu lost his lawsuit against President Traian Basescu on Friday, under a ruling of the Bucharest District 1 Judge Hall, Mediafax reported. In the lawsuit, which began in May 2010, Patriciu demanded EUR 1 in moral damages from the president, for having called him a “liar.” Basescu accused Patriciu of lying and forging video evidence allegedly showing him punch a child at an election rally in 2004. The president too started a lawsuit against Patriciu, a case that he won in October this year. The video showing Basescu allegedly hitting the child was released on November 26, 2009, shortly before the presidential runoff. The footage was released by a central newspaper, with Patriciu saying on a TV channel that same day that he was actually present at the election rally and witnessed what happened. He also said Basescu actually hit that child twice during the rally.
