Geoana: Ponta has ‘zero chances’ to be prime minister

Senator Mircea Geoana, recently ousted from the Social Democrat Party and the Senate speaker post, attacked PSD leader Victor Ponta in an interview to VoxPublica blogging platform. In the interview, Geoana said Ponta has “zero chances” to become prime minister, adding that the PSD leader has neither the necessary economic background nor the political discourse needed for the job, according to Realitatea.net.

Geoana also said he was disappointed to see the opposition Social Liberal Union fails to act properly and convince voters that it can be a real alternative to the current rule. He added that there is growing discontent in the PSD with Ponta’s policies and “there are more aggressive talks about the organisation of an extraordinary congress to replace” the current party leader.

The senator also said that in his opinion, there will be a change in government very soon, at the beginning of next year and voiced confidence that he will remain one of the most influential politicians in Romania a year from now. Geoana talked about the political movement he plans to launch, saying that in his opinion, his party has chances to enter Parliament in next year’s elections.
