Probe targets market of meal tickets

The Competition Council conducted inspections at the top three companies that issue meal tickets on the Romanian market – Edenred, Sodexo Pass and Cheque Dejeuner – as part of a probe regarding a possible agreement aimed at getting out of business two smaller competitors, Romticket and Ascendi, the Council announces in a press release. The face value of a meal ticket is the same for all beneficiaries – RON 9 – as it is periodically established and updated by the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection, as provided by law. If the Competition Council uncovers an infringement of competition rules, the involved companies risk fines up to 10 pc of their turnover. Companies that cooperate with authorities, as part of a clemency programme, might be granted impunity, or pay substantially smaller fines.
