Social-Democrat Aura Vasile MP switches to UNPR

The deputy Aura Vasile, vice-president of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD) group in the Chamber, announced yesterday in the assembly that she was switching allegiance to the National Union for Romanian Progress (UNPR). Aura Vasile, 62, is on her third consecutive mandate on behalf of PSD. Widely known as a member of PSD deputy president Marian Vanghelie’s entourage, Vasile is the secretary of the Chamber’s Industry Committee and the deputy leader of the PSD group in the Lower Chamber. Aura Vasile stated yesterday, quoted in a release by UNPR, that she had decided to “join her ex-colleagues, who proved that they have strong principles and values, unlike others”, adding that UNPR “is the only party which represents at this point the Romanian leftwing”. Paradoxically, on the very day she made this announcement, Aura Vasile posted on her blog a vehement attack on the ruling power, UNPR included, inviting the coalition MPs to vote in favour of the Social-Liberal Union (USL)’s no-confidence motion.
