“Viennese Christmas” Gala still on despite Edvin Marton’s accident

The organisers of the “Viennese Christmas” Gala at Bucharest’s Palace Hall Wednesday and today announced that the event will not be rescheduled, irrespective of whether its star, violinist Edvin Marton, who injured his neck in a fall in Bucharest Tuesday evening, will perform or not.

The violinist presented himself to Floreasca Hospital in Bucharest, Tuesday evening, after a fall in which he injured the nape of his neck. Doctors’ examinations and investigations revealed no traumatisms , Mediafax quoted Bogdan Oprita, the hospital’s spokesman as saying. Having undergone some emergency medical investigations, among which an X-ray that shown no injury, the violinist  left the hospital in the same evening. “His biggest worry was his Stradivarius violin could get damaged in the fall, and was less worried about the potential traumatism he could have suffered,” doctor Oprita said.

The shows organisers – Maria Domina Cultural Association and “Vreau Bilet” Agency – said that if Marton were not able to perform, he would be replaced by Austrian conductor Gottfried Rabl, who was to conduct the program in the first part of the show. Edvin Marton was scheduled to perform as both a violinist and conductor.
