Siamese twins joined in thoracic and abdominal area, born in Pitesti

Two Siamese twins joined in the thoracic and abdominal area, weighing together 2.8 kilos, were born on Monday in the Pitesti Emergency County Hospital’s Maternity and were transferred to the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Children’s Hospital in Bucharest. The representatives of the Bucharest hospital stated that the twins’ condition was serious and that they were currently supported by artificial breathing devices. “Tests indicated that the girls have separate hearts, they are joined in the vicinity of the liver, this is where a sensitive problem arises,” the spokesperson for the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Hospital, Dr. Raluca Alexandru, stated on Wednesday for Mediafax. She added that the medical team had got in touch with Doctor Gabriel Ionescu, currently living in the United Arab Emirates, in view of a surgical operation, as the latter managed to successfully separate a pair of Siamese twins in the 1980s. The twins ’ mother is 21 and is from Mioveni.
