The suspended mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu, and the businessman Calin Stoia, deferred to justice for acts of corruption, will remain in custody, the Cluj Court of Appeal magistrates ruled, Mediafax reports. The first hearing in the case in which the two are tried for acts of corruption took place yesterday at the Cluj Court of Appeal and judges addressed the legality of the arrest measure. Judges found the arrest measure had been legal and warranted and rejected the defendants’ petition for the revocation, respectively, modification of the arrest measure, so that the two will remain in detention for the time of the trial. Both Stoia and Apostu filed appeals against the decision, which would be judged by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ).
