UDMR, still opposing vote by mail

The president of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, reiterated on Tuesday that the Union would not back the introduction of the vote by mail as, in its case, “the security of the vote is fairly weak.”

“Romanians who do not live in Romania have the right to vote, to have their say. Elections should be organized in such a way as to give every Romanian citizen the possibility to go to the polls and hand in his vote,” the Union leader added, arguing that the fair thing would be for every Romanian citizen to have the possibility to vote. The Culture Minister further stated that the vote by mail system would imply “the possibility of questioning the fairness of the vote.”
