The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) will allot approximately EUR 2 M this year to participations in 70 fairs, after taking part in 25 such manifestations in 2011, which took a EUR 900,000-toll on the ministry’s budget, representatives of the institution stated, quoted by Mediafax. “The budget allotted to domestic and international exhibitions is approx. EUR 2 M, which will be significantly reduced after procedures for the purchasing of creative, design, setup and operating services for Romania’s stall are completed,” MDRT representatives further stated. The same sources argued MDRT’s object was to turn Romania into a major global tourist destination through a more effective promotion of the country’s potential for tourism. To this purpose, throughout 2012, MDRT will take part in a larger number of fairs compared to the past years. Thus, the institution will participate this year in fairs in Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, France, Denmark, USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Estonia, Israel, Hungary, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Poland, Greece and Switzerland. The money allotted to the 2011 events, as well as to those scheduled for 2012, comes largely from EU funds.
