Constanta: Two sisters, 13 and 15, pregnant

Child protection authorities started an investigation in the case of two sisters, aged 13 and 15, from Valu lui Traian, Constanta County, after it was discovered the two are pregnant, Mediafax reports. According to representatives of the Valu lui Traian Mayor’s Office Social Assistance Service, the two sisters claim they are pregnant with their “husbands”, as they were “married” from an early age, as is the custom in the Roma community they belong to.

“The doctors established the 13-year-old girl is seven months’ pregnant, while her 15-year-old sister is eight months’ pregnant,” Ionela Zota, advisor within the Valu lui Traian Mayor’s Office, stated. She further stated that the two fathers are underage as well, being no older than 17, and that the authorities are unable to intervene in this situation, as the relations between the four young people, who live together in the house of an uncle, have the family’s blessing.
