Fumie Suguri and Surya Bonaly are the first feminine presences confirmed in the programme of the fourth edition of Kings on Ice, to take place on April 7 at Bucharest’s “Mihai Flamaropol” Skating Rink, the organizers, Amphitrion, informed. The two figure skaters will be performing alongside Evgeni Plushenko, Stephane Lambiel and Brian Joubert. Whereas Surya Bonaly will be for the second time in Bucharest this year, this will be Fumie Suguri’s first appearance in the most spectacular figure skating event in Romania. One of the first-rank names in figure skating, Fumie Suguri is the five-time winner of the gold medal in Japan’s National Figure Skating Championship and took home the gold medal of the Four Continents Figure Skating Championship three times, in the 2001, 2003 and 2005 edition. She won three medals in world championships, as well as many other titles, and is one of Japan’s most celebrated representatives in international competitions.
The French-born skater Surya Bonaly has managed to win throughout her career no less than 25 gold medals, 10 silver and another five bronze medals, as well as a host of other titles. She was crowned the French champion nine times, claiming the top position in the European ranking five years in a row, between 1991 and 1995.
