The former president Ion Iliescu made yesterday an exclusive statement on Realitatea TV concerning the colon surgical intervention he underwent on Monday. “I am feeling alright. It concerned a polyp which had to be removed and having it removed helped. It wasn’t a complicated procedure. It involved a local anaesthesia and it didn’t last long. It was all over within half an hour,” Iliescu stated. When asked whether he had to observe a special diet from now on, the ex-president replied: “Not necessarily. Of course, I’ll have to be more cautious for a while, but I’m not a man given to excesses anyway”. Iliescu was released yesterday from the Elias Hospital.
